hat trick

Now that the teaching year is finally winding down (we've had the Year 11 kids come up for a taster day, now just Open Evenings to tackle this coming week) I've been able to spend some time relaxing and taking stock. That has meant time spent reading in the garden, a spot of retail therapy, cooking something more than spag bol and catching up with friends on fun day trips. Bliss!

I'm still reading The Book Thief (it's been too long - I've sort of fallen in and out of interest with it) and have amassed a rather hefty pile of charity shop books to read over the summer. I don't know which to start first! And despite my current elderflower cordial obsession, I've found myself turning to these rather gorgeous Jing Teas* for something comforting to curl up with. How beautiful is that glass mug?! I've tried the Jing Chai and Vanilla Black teas so far, and really love the flavour. So much more interesting than my normal peppermint, green or English breakfast choices!

So my question for you is - what books should I be taking on holiday with me next week?

  1. I recently (3 months ago) joined our local library and haven't looked back, it's expanded my reading pool so much! Try 'The Boy Who Could See Demons' by Carolyn Jess-Cooke. I was absolutely taken with this book, a black comedy set in Ireland, it's about a boy...who can see demons, his psychiatrist and how their lives intertwine. A must have on your summer reading list!

p.s I struggled with 'The Book Thief' too.

  3. I've just started reading Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami, I've only read the first 20 pages but it's been really good so far! I've been warned that it is a very sad book though. I read Kafka on the Shore last summer and it really blew me away - so there's my tip! xx Anne

  5. I've just finished reading the Girl who saved the king of Sweden (from the author who wrote the 100 year old man who climbed out the window and disappeared) and I loved it- so I'd def recommend that!
